Umar Kamani

Founder and chief executive, PrettyLittleThing

Umar Kamani was inducted into the Drapers Digital Hall of Fame in May this year, in recognition of PrettyLittleThing’s meteoric rise. Started by Kamani in 2012, the etailer is now one of fast fashion’s leading lights.

Revenue at PrettyLittleThing was up 41% to £237.6m in the six months to 31 August. The number of active customers rocketed by 43% to 5.7 million in the same period.

World domination has been a key focus for PrettyLittleThing this year. It opened a 7,000 sq ft LA office on Melrose Avenue in February, which is home to a “unicorn lounge”, “glam bar” and photography studio.

The business also continued its popular collaborations with high-profile famous faces, including ranges with girl band Little Mix and presenter Maya Jama. A collection made from recycled materials and fabrics made its debut in April.

PrettyLittleThing held its first catwalk show during New York Fashion Week in September, where singer Ashanti and rappers Lil’ Kim and Saweetie performed.
